Highlighting a recent “Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer” report, ACS notes that cancer death rates have continued to drop by an average of 1.5 percent year-on-year since 2013. However, it also focuses on an upward trend of people being diagnosed with cancer, which has been seen in both men and women.

The ACS highlights that this rise may not be connected to people being more at risk of developing cancer. Instead, it claims that there are several reasons for this, including more advanced testing and diagnostic techniques.
The study, which was published in the March 12, 2020 edition of the journal Cancer, also notes that the steepest decreases in death rates were for melanoma skin, lung, and colorectal cancer. However, there was a rise in death rates associated with mouth and throat cancer.
