broken image

Experienced in a variety of health care positions, Ellen Scharaga is an operational consultant for Alegria Specialty Pharmacy, working with stakeholders to ensure positive patient responses to a variety of medicines. Ellen Scharaga stays up-to-date through membership in the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York (PSSNY).

Founded in 1879, the PSSNY offers several programs to help pharmacy students and recent graduates enter the field. Among them are:

- New Practitioner’s Committee. Meant for pharmacists who have graduated within the last 5 years, the committee sponsors several networking events. Career progress and financial management will be covered at a mid-winter meeting on January 24-26, 2020, at the Albany Hilton. The group’s Facebook page also offers advice, along with the PharmAssist blog.
- Student PSSNY. Composed of students from New York’s eight pharmacy schools, Student PSSNY keeps members abreast of political initiatives and developments in the field. Members can also develop business plans, make research presentations, and build professional networks.
- Under My Wing. This mentoring program for students helps them become business owners. Mentors who have been owners for at least 2 years assist their mentees with inside knowledge, networking, and coaching. Students must maintain good grades to benefit from this initiative.
